Educational philosophy
I hope to instill in students the idea that even if you do not choose to pursue art or design as a career, you can always be an artist. Art teaches you that mistakes will happen, sketches are important, practice makes you better, and sometimes it is best to just start again. Art teaches you to take risks and explore new things. Art helps us process emotions and experiences, and it helps us understand our place in history.
Education should foster in people the desire to be lifelong learners. I believe students learn best when they are adequately challenged, given room to explore, to be curious, and where they feel valued in their thoughts, their questions, and their individual experiences.
All students who take my class should expect to gain skills in articulating their ideas and speaking about them with confidence.

I have 3 senior dogs: Ruby, Moody, and Pebble.
I still love to take art classes. Over the summer, I completed a weeklong residency at Moore.
I love reading!
My favorite genre is fantasy.
My Background
It's my third year at East! I have never felt as much inspiration as I do while teaching. My students inspire me every day and encourage me to get even more creative.
Before beginning my teaching career, I earned a BFA in Sculpture with a minor in Art Therapy from the University of the Arts before pursuing a varied career in art. I've worked in public art in Philadelphia, including being a collaborating artist in the Percent for Art program. I have worked in several communities in Philly, both in and out of school.
I also worked in the field of fashion as a Visual Stylist for Nordstrom for several years.
I found that when I felt at my best was when I got to share skills that I have learned with others. Learning never stops, and as a teacher, I grow every day!
